Try as I might, I could not come up with any but obvious picks. My choices are no less worthy for being popular favorites, but I simply cannot show off with them. Alas.

6. The Thing From Another World

1950s B-movie sci-fi cheese done as an A-movie without the cheese.

5. Superman II

Kneel before Zod.

4. Predator

If it bleeds, that means we can kill it.

Bad sequels and Aliens cloud the fact that the original film was one ridiculously tense ride.

3. Signs

A controversial pick, but I cannot ignore what was, for me, a singularly powerful and personal filmgoing experience.

2. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Despite countless parodies, rip-offs, and remakes both good and bad, this Twilight Zone-esque pod people film still has creep-out power.

1. Double Feature: The Day the Earth Stood Still / Plan 9 From Outer Space

Aliens assume control of mankind's irresponsible violence against itself. It's not cheating to include two titles as my #1. They're practically the same movie.

Rest in peace, Maila Nurmi, the actress who played Vampira in Plan 9, who died only last week.
