Did you try doing something inside the mansion only to crash into a wall or ceiling. Maybe it would work outside where there are no barriers?

It may be that there is something I can do (I've only been stuck for 15 minutes or so), but there are no extra options at the remaining puzzles and no sign of the jewel, so I've rather lost confidence in the "try everything everywhere" approach.
