GOA - Trapped in Llewiglyn (sp?)

I don't have a nail to hold up the blanket. I have tried everywhere in this town to find a nail. I cannot get out of the town to try to go back to the other town or back to my home town. The portcullis is broken so I cannot get out of the gate and I'm not getting the option to use the red stones. The guard trying to fix the gate won't let me help. I tried jumping out the holes, but I still land inside the town. Could someone tell me how to leave this town? Or, if the gate does eventually get fixed, how do I make the time pass to fix it?

I have already taken the picture to the blacksmith. Gotten the hammer, lost the hammer, got it again. Bought a balloon. Found sticks. Someone I want to talk to again is still training people.

I'm just lost as to what I should do next. I need to get that magnifying glass to someone, but I need a nail.
