I'm in GOA and the "Hints" section asks "How do I get the hammer?" It responds by saying that I should deal with the "litter guy". I'm assuming that this is referring to the crate. I've had the crate for awhile, and I've have used it to stand on next to the shack in the village of boredom, which hasn't done any good. How am I to get this hammer, and what good is the crate?

My inventory is:
7 red gemstones
3 black gemstones
Guard's Sword
Stone of Strengthening
Food Rations
Bucket
Rope
Tinderbox
Wire Clippers
Key of Opening
Portrait
Clear Focus Stone
Crate
