I have climbed into the kitchen once already, but apparently I did the wrong thing there. Now the cook kills me if I try to go back. I have talked to the g-whatever guys, the barkeep, and the blacksmith. I have tried to switch my portrait with the painting in the banquet hall, but the serving girls won't let me. Here's my inventory:

20 Bronze Coins
Guard's Sword
Tinderbox
Key of Opening
Map
9 Red Gemstones
Stone of Strengthening
