If the boat went to pieces, you're done with it. AND you should also have another gold piece in your inventory. (Gold goes to the soothsayer, and it will eventually pay off!)

If you read about the magical properties of Yuckyuck leaves, there's someone in the very northwest corner of the forest who would appreciate them.

As for the garden, there's a gold piece, a jewel, and a really scary feline to be found. The jewel can be used to buy something, the gold piece goes to you-know-who, and the kitty cat... well, there's ONE OTHER fuzzy creature big enough to take him on. If you've given him a treat, he might come save you when you're facing it down.
