Poetry Pool

We #1

An impenetrable fortress
Falls
Leaving an idyllic world
In shambles
The city rebuilt
Will never be as strong
The new walls --
Needed to keep out
The savage unknown
And therefore
Hastily erected --
Are weaker
More easily breached
Eventually

That which is left
Is not worth
The energy of rebuilding
And a once respected citadel
Decays

Unless
The time is taken
To prevent new weakness
And old faults
Are corrected
And long-term growth
Is placed before
Short-term safety

But who has time
To bother with that?
