Once More

She has left, at last,
But she takes with her
A price, and taking, gives
The memory of scar and hurt
And knowledge she still lives.

But now, now for
The twist, the bind,
The string she leaves behind.
Attached for good
Elastic should
Bring her back here once more.

I lose her, she floats back.
Can't you find her now,
Someone, can't you see?
But no. You can't, for seeing her's
A privilege left for me.

But now, she leaves.
I slip inside
My old inviting life.
I am alone--
For now, alone--
Enjoying fleeting peace.
