June First, a.d. 1999
I'm early today,
An unusual occurrence.
I remember that it's my brother's birthday.
The blue he stands for stuns me.
The professor strides in.
The tired brown of the classroom takes over.
My pencil becomes a brush,
Washing my own deep green across
And helping me escape to nowhere.
A wave of red assaults me;
There is too much to do
In too little time.
My grey fatigue overwhelms me.
My magic shade of green flows on,
Trying its hardest to colour things my way.
I float adrift on an orange lagoon;
A green boat sailed out here all alone,
And then someone removed the water.
