Young Frankenstein (1974)

Reviews and Comments

Young Frankenstein is Mel Brooks' best film. The Producers is funnier by a nose, but this send-up of the old Universal horror flicks, filmed in beautiful black and white, is more cohesive and consistent. The humor is unapologetically low-brow and corny -- there's even a "walk this way" gag -- but the cast has so much comic energy and perfect timing that it will put some of even the most reluctant viewers into the silly moods required to appreciate this. Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman, in particular, are excellent.
