You Gotta Stay Happy (1948)

Reviews and Comments

This pleasant, joyful romp is just what the doctor ordered to counteract the more biting, disparaging comedies of today. You Gotta Stay Happy is consistently amusing and harmless fun. The best scenes are the early ones, in which Jimmy Stewart, an innocent bystander who just wants a good night's sleep in a hotel, is unwittingly placed in an increasingly compromising position when a woman, fleeing her newlywed husband, keeps running into him. Watch for Percy Kilbride, whose role here seems to have been inspired by his Pa Kettle character, which first debuted with 1947's The Egg and I.
