Rock Hudson, Jean Simmon, and Claude Rains star in this Prohibition-era drama about a winemaking dynasty and the soap operatic secrets of the family. The stars take their roles seriously, which adds credibility to the story, but the rest is nothing particularly new. Still, these types of movies -- where an innavigable tangle of suppressed passions and impossible dreams is neatly righted -- can be entertaining and encouraging. This Earth Is Mine works nicely on that level.
