The Saint (1997)

Reviews and Comments

Leslie Charteris' infamous detective is done a grave disservice in this senseless film version. Val Kilmer, in the title role, spends more time changing disguises than anything else, and for someone with a reputation of covering his tracks well, it's ridiculous how bad he is at it. The female lead, naturally, can track him down even when the FBI cannot, because everybody in this movie except the main characters are idiots. Consequently, his attempts to make the Saint into an enticingly mysterious character are futile.

Even setting logic aside, the movie fails as a pure visceral experience. The plot marches along tediously; even the action scenes are uninteresting.
