The Replacement Killers (1998)

Reviews and Comments

The Replacement Killers is Hong Kong action superstar Chow Yun-Fat's first American film, and it's too bad he couldn't make his entrance with a better vehicle. In Hong Kong, he starred in some of John Woo's best films. Here, he stars in this John Woo likalike (which Woo executive produced but did not direct).

Yun-Fat plays the character he is known for -- a paid assassin with a heart. When he decides not to do a job, the crime boss who hired him hires replacements who will finish the job and take Yun-Fat out too. There's lots of gunfire but very little story. Think of this as a John Woo film without the intellectual content but with all the energy and most of the style and texture.
