Reviews and Comments

Charlton Heston turns in a fine performance in this otherwise mediocre adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. A deadly virus has wiped out the population of the world; Heston, immune to it, is apparently the only one left alive, save for zombie things that walk the night. Some of the touches, like Heston raiding the empty city shops for supplies, are intriguing; other details, like when, exactly, Heston sleeps, are bothersome by their absence. The main zombie plot borders on ridiculous, and the suspense scenes are killed by mellow elevator music accompaniment. One could do a lot worse, I suppose, but this is not a great science fiction film, by any means.
