Reviews and Comments

Billy Bob Thornton turned a lot of heads when he wrote, directed, and starred in this amazingly compelling drama about a man released from a psychiatric hospital who tries to adjust to life outside. Less dry or heavy handed than it may sound, Sling Blade hooks us early and never falters into manipulation or artifice. The ending leaves us with a lot to think about, because the movie does not pass judgment on its characters. Some may be disturbed about that -- clearly, there are wrongs done that aren't and can't be righted. The movie asks us to think a little deeper than that. Rather than merely discerning right from wrong in difficult real life situations, take it one step further.
