Papillon (1973)

Reviews and Comments

Papillon has arguably Steve McQueen's finest performance, but the pacing of this awkward adventure -- a brutal jail-break flick based on a true story -- is so uneven that the film lacks proper focus. Because the acting is good, and there are a number of memorable scenes, the film plays better in retrospect than at the time of viewing.
