When The Man Without a Star first came out, some criticized it for being too violent. They missed the point. This gritty western is about a man born and bred in the Old West and its violent ways. He finds himself the last of his kind in a new, more civilized world, and there doesn't seem to be much room left for him. It's an exciting western in the best tradition, and Kirk Douglas gave one of his finer performances in the lead role.
