Reviews and Comments

Although Jack Benny is more famous for this television series, he made a number of hilarious screwball comedies, Man About Town among them. The story is true to the genre: romantic entanglements are made worse by misunderstandings, class distinctions, and elaborate schemes. The film is lively, the comic situations are exploited to their fullest, and it's obvious the cast is having fun. Alas, at the end, when the comedy has reached its climax, the plot just kind of offhandedly falls into a resolution. Ignore that flaw, and this is fine, enjoyable fare.
