There is something enchanting about the British comedy Genevieve that will not be evident in a plot synopsis. Two couples participate in the annual London to Brighton antique car rally, which is not officially a race, but a rivalry between two uneasy friends results in it being one. Every mishap that could possibly occur does, but the logistics of the race are only the framework upon which this lightweight yet incisive character comedy is hung. Strangely, though these characters exhibit thoroughly unlikable tendencies now and again, we like them nevertheless. The spell this film weaves is simply magical.
