Reviews and Comments

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is an early great from director Steven Spielberg, whose ability to capture a sense of awe and wonder on film is unparalleled. It's an inspiring story of contact with aliens and a fable about the dangers of approaching the wonders of our universe with anything but childlike curiosity. Unlike Jaws, Spielberg's first true masterpiece, this film is a little rough around the edges and lingers a hair too long in its conclusion, but otherwise it's a wonderful fantasy that still holds up well today.
