Reviews and Comments

Bridget Jones's Diary is a tough one. In a nutshell, it's well acted, well written, and does not contain a single character I cared about. Bridget Jones is a character, but she doesn't have character, and the "good" love interest lacks characterization. The "bad" love interest seems less a character and more a machinated attempt to maximize the loathing we feel for him via calculatedly slimy dialogue.

The actors almost sell it, but ultimately the film failed to appeal to my emotions. Consequently, the artifice was all too visible beneath the clever coating.
