Antz is DreamWorks' "computer animated bug" movie for 1998. (The other is Disney/Pixar's A Bug's Life.) It features an extraordinary array of vocal talent, with the inspired choice of Woody Allen in the lead role. The result is a hilarious and exciting adventure story that's a weird blend of the traditional animated extravaganza (minus the music) and a Woody Allen movie.

Antz creates a fascinating and visually stunning world, and the story and dialogue thankfully refuse to let the spectacle do any upstaging. Like all great family fare, there's something for the adults, too; much of the humor will go right over kids' heads -- which is a good thing sometimes, as the PG-rated material (while still tame) is a bit unusual for family-oriented theatrical animation.
