AntiTrust (2001)

Reviews and Comments

Computers are so uncinematic that it is very difficult to make a good movie about them. AntiTrust actually comes close. It's about a young computer genius who gets hired by a big monopolistic corporation, much to the chagrin of a friend of his whose ideals run along the open source road, and grows increasingly suspicious of the goings-on at the company. The movie gradually evolves into a conventional over-the-top thriller, but it never really builds up the steam and tension it takes to be satisfying. I did like, however, the movie's handling of computer terminology and how it captured the essence of the conflict between closed source businesses and open source ideals. Movies rarely even attempt to tackle esoteric issues like this, let alone get them basically right.
