One only need to see this little-known original version of Angels In the Outfield to see where the sappy 1994 Disney remake went wrong. The original is fresh, funny, and contains a remarkable performance by Paul Douglas as the gruff baseball coach. It's not easy to make a jerk a sympathetic character in a movie, but Douglas makes it look easy. The whole of the film hinges on his performance, and he pulls through in flying colors.
