Trailer Remixes

Ever since "Shining," it's been an online fad to make joke movie trailers that switch genres on well-known titles. Most of them out there actually aren't that good, but the best ones are great. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the best way to learn is by example:

Amidst the humor value is the compelling demonstration that studios' marketing arms can make a new movie look like whatever they want it to. And, indeed, the trailers you see are purposely cut to make the movies look a bit more like whatever marketing thinks is saleable than they actually are. It's not uncommon for movies to have multiple trailers, each tailored for a specific demographic and sold in the corresponding ad spaces that cater to those demographics. The effect is subtler than these fake "remix" trailers, of course, but it's there. And many a movie has flopped because it was sold as the wrong kind of movie, and the audience that made it to the theater was expecting something else and told their friends about their disappointment.
